Speaking at Money20/20, CEO Lisa Jacobs discussed scaling fintechs, the strength of London's fintech ecosystem, and how Funding Circle is embracing AI. At SXSW London, she talked to the diversity of UK SMEs, the role of fintechs in filling the gap left by traditional lenders, and the opportunity for Funding Circle as we scale our newer products. Tiana Portugal, our VP Sales & Marketing, also spoke at London Tech Week about how her team is transforming into a dynamic, AI-native marketing team.
Building an AI-native business
We see AI as a significant lever over the medium term to improve our customer and Circler experience, increase productivity, and open up new opportunities. Becoming AI-native is as much a people and culture change as it is a technology one. As part of our ongoing AI fluency programme, in June we held our all company ‘Full Circle’ event which included an immersive vibe-a-thon style session where all Circlers created their own custom built app.

Borrower Spotlight: Flo and Kerr, founders of Choc on Choc
In the spring, CEO Lisa Jacobs and Chair Ken Stannard visited Flo and Kerr, the father and daughter team behind Choc on Choc, an artisan chocolate business based in Somerset. Founded in 2003, the company creates hand-crafted, hand-painted chocolates in playful designs and has grown from trade shows to a direct-to-consumer website and listings at Selfridges, Ocado and M&S. They use their FlexiPay line of credit to manage cashflow across busy seasonal periods, spreading the cost of large outgoings like VAT. Their story is a great example of the entrepreneurial ambition Funding Circle exists to back.
